"An Abominable Fancy"

"In order that the happiness of the Saints may be more delightful to them and that they may render more copious thanks to God for it, they are allowed to see perfectly the sufferings of the Damned."

RE:

“An Abominable Fancy”

An Autobiography by John U. Abrahamson with William Maltese

Artist John U. Abrahamson and internationally best-selling author William Maltese,

have just gone to contract with Laura Baumbach’s MLR/PIP Press to pen the artist’s

Faustian autobiography that was birthed in the aftermath of Abrahamson’s recent

successful and much-discussed “Flesh and Blood” exhibition at Bert Green Fine Art in

Los Angeles, CA.

“Flesh and Blood” included an installation of the same name that consisted of 660 vials

of the artist’s own blood and flesh, collected over the previous year. It was, though, his

thirty personal journals, written over 15 years, which viewers were encouraged to

destroy, and did, that provided Abrahamson the catharsis and sudden incentive he needed

to “reclaim those memories” in “An Abominable Fancy” now being penned with

Maltese.

The autobiography will span almost half a century and illustrate the artist’s long-existent

quest for understanding life and himself through his experiences and through his

controversial artwork. It will document the odd and often macabre twists and turns taken

by him towards achieving those ends … from his abandonment by his mother when he

was 7… to his rise within the Los Angeles art scene… and his deep descent into San

Francisco’s dark underworlds of vampirism, blood-sports, and fetishism, all the while

putting his ghosts and demons on canvas and paper, for all the world to see, in his attempt

to achieve some kind of much-needed self-realized exorcism.
